## Specialisation in Plant Cells ### Specialised Cells: * Suited to its particular function. * Cell differentiation. * Waxy cuticle layer - protects plants' epidermis cells. * Layers could be different. * Many don't contain chloroplasts. * Guard cells - open and close stomata. * Enzymes to digest insects. * Palisade layers have loads of chloroplasts to absorb sunlight. ### Roots (Root Hair) Cells: * Plant absorbs water from the soil through osmosis. * Root hair cells are adapted by having a large surface area. * Loads of mitochondria inside for transport of water and minerals. ### Xylem: * Transports water and solutes from roots to the leaves. * This is called transpiration. * Contains no cytoplasm or nucleus. * Made from dead cells. * One way only; up. * No walls between cells. * Thick walls strengthened with lignin
