## Explosions of Fuels, Explosives, or from Backdraft Even relatively low-order explosions can cause vast increases in the pressure inside an enclosure. As little as 1 psi exerted laterally on a brick wall can topple it like a house of cards. Any location where flammable gases or explosives are stored demands that tactics be shifted away from the offensive to take up cautious, defensive positions. If a potential backdraft is suspected, all firefighters must take the proper actions to prevent it, venting at the top prior to entering below and cooling the superheated atmosphere, or take the precautions described in chapter 3 to avoid being caught by these destructive events.
