## Overloading of the floors and roof This can occur in buildings other than those housing absorbent materials. In fact, this has happened at structures even without fire being present. The previously mentioned plumbing supply store, with boxes and boxes of cast-iron fittings, as well as pipe and fixtures, presents an extremely heavy load. Accumulated snow is also problematic in many areas. Many times, however, the biggest offender at fire operations is the runoff from hose streams. A 1,000-gpm master stream adds approximately 8,500 lb to the building each minute. If you don’t see a tremendous amount of water pouring out of the doors, chances are that it is remaining in the building. An accumulation of water 1 ft deep over an area 20 ft wide by 20 ft long represents nearly 25,000 lb added to the load.
