Ideas are eternal and unchanging. ### Idealism and Education - An idealist's concept of education is something which leads one to the highest moral conduct and deepest spiritual insight. - Education, according to idealism, is spiritual necessity and not a natural necessity. - Education must convert the original nature of man into spiritual nature. - In the words of Rusk, "Education must enable mankind through its culture to enter more and more fully into the spiritual realm." ### Naturalism - Is the belief that nature is all that exists, and that all things supernatural (therefore do not exist) * gods * spirits * souls * and non-natural values It is often called **Metaphysical Naturalism**, **Philosophical Naturalism**, or **Ontological Naturalism**. ### Types of Naturalism - Mental properties that exist (and hence any mental powers or beings) are causally derived from: * Ontologically dependent on, systems of non-mental properties, powers or things. * all minds * all the contents * all powers and effects of minds All of these are entirely constructed from or caused by natural phenomena.
