PURPOSE: To describe procedures for evaluating and documenting the condition and operation of fire and rescue stations, including personnel and equipment. 908.1 Preface To ensure safe and efficient operations are in compliance with the Florida State Fire Marshal’s regulations, it is imperative that department policies, guidelines, rules, and regulations are followed at each workplace. The station inspection program is designed as the mechanism for detecting and correcting deficiencies and/or violations of the above mentioned practices. 908.2 Inspection Responsibility It shall be the responsibility of the Division Chief of Health and Safety to ensure the inspections of the stations are completed. 908.3 Inspection Schedule and Procedure A. To ensure compliance with State Fire Marshal regulations, a safe work environment for all personnel, and inspections shall be conducted quarterly. B. The following are the items that will be inspected: a. General station conditions b. Housekeeping c. Exits d. Walking and working surfaces e. Apparatus floors/maintenance areas f. Laundry/cleaning/disinfecting areas g. Building exterior and grounds h. Decontamination rooms i. Fire prevention and protection j. Hazardous materials k. Electrical wiring/fixtures/controls l. Excessive supplies SUBJECT: EFFECTIVE DATE: 09/01/15 S.O.P. 908 Station Inspections REVISION DATE: 05/28/20 CATEGORY: SUBCATEGORY: PAGE 2 OF 2 Support Services C. The station officer shall initiate corrective action(s) immediately for any deficiencies that are noted during a station inspection. Any deficiencies noted that are beyond the station personnel’s ability to correct will be forwarded to the Division Chief of Health & Safety who will arrange for any appropriate follow-up actions that may need to be performed. 908.4 Inspection Documentation A. All station inspections will be documented on form CFR-050 - Facilities Checklist Report. B. The Facilities Checklist Report shall be completed during the inspection and then forwarded to the Division Chief of Health & Safety for review. A copy of the completed Facilities Checklist Report will also be provided to the station officer for use in addressing corrective actions needed. C. Once the corrective actions have been addressed, the form will be kept on file by the Division Chief of Health and Safety.
