In-Cab portion of Pre Trip Inspection - Seat belt - properly mounted and secured, no cuts, tears or fraying, locks, holds, unlocks properly, all bolts present and tight - Say, “I am going to do a safe start.” - Tum key to ON position. Say, “I see the ABS lights tum on,...
In-Cab portion of Pre Trip Inspection - Seat belt - properly mounted and secured, no cuts, tears or fraying, locks, holds, unlocks properly, all bolts present and tight - Say, “I am going to do a safe start.” - Tum key to ON position. Say, “I see the ABS lights tum on, I see the DEF lights tum on, ABS light on the back of the trailer.” - Start the truck - Turn and hold key until it fully starts. Proceed with G.A.L.S.T.S. Check for the air governor shut off. Say, “I will use the service break to drop the air pressure below 100 psi, then build pressure to 120-140 psi by revving engine between 10-15 RPMs until you hear air governor shut off. My air governor shut off at _____ psi. Say, “I will now do the Applied break test.” - Tum truck off. - Turn key to ON position for safe start. - Push the spring brakes. - Wait for the hissing to stop, then press the service brake as hard as you can. - Wait for gauge to stop moving. - Start the timer for one minute, ensuring you lose no more than 4 psi. - Visually con rm with instructor that at least one minute has elapsed. - DO NOT release the service brake AT ALL until you have con rmation from instructor!! Say, “I will now do low air pressure warning test.” - Press the service brakes until a low air warning light or buzzer sounds at 55 psi or above. Say, “I will now perform the spring brake test.” - Say, “I am going to keep lowering my air pressure until my spring brakes automatically pop at 45-20 psi.” - Say, “I will now perform a tug test.” Tum truck back on and rebuild air pressure to about 100 psi. - Test trailer supply - push parking brake + put truck in drive + gently press on the accelerator (should not move) = trailer brake is good. Put truck in neutral and pull out parking brake. - Test truck - push trailer supply + put truck in drive + gently press on accelerator (should not move) = tractor brakes are good. Turn to neutral. - Service brake and brake alignment test - push both spring brakes in, accelerate truck forward to about 5 mph, hands off of the steering wheel, say, fi fi "My steering wheel did not move and my service breaks work.” Put truck in neutral, Pull out both brakes. In-Cab Pre Trip Inspection - Spare fuses and light bulbs (above you) - Two (2) re extinguishers (next to driver seat and behind the passenger) - properly mounted and secured, not cracked, bent or damaged, no illegal holes or welds, not leaking, lled to the proper level (the needle is in the green), pin is in place, no missing hardware - Three (3) re ective triangles - properly mounted and secured, not cracked, chipped or damaged, proper color, clean, clear and free of debris, no missing hardware. When they are properly put together, they can stand on their own. - Six (6) mirrors - properly, mounted and secured, not cracked, chipped or damaged, clean, clear, free of debris, no illegal stickers, mirrors adjusted to driver, no missing hardware - Windshield - properly, mounted and secured, not cracked, chipped or damaged, clean, clear and free of debris, no illegal stickers, no missing hardware - Windshield wiper arms - properly, mounted and secured, Not cracked, bent or damaged, no illegal holes or welds, no missing hardware - Windshield wiper blades - properly, mounted and secured, not cut, torn or frayed, tight and ush to the windshield, no missing hardware, say, “l am going to check if wipers and washer uid actually work by pressing in left lever.” - Check gauges and read levels aloud: Oil pressure Air pressure Water temperature City and air horn Check heater and defrost Check low beams Check high beams Check signal indicators (blinkers) left/right Check four-way ashers (hazards) - Ask examiner to step out to check all lights. - While examiner is in front of truck, make sure to point up for top marker lights and point to the sides for side marker lights. - While examiner is in the rear of truck, make sure to press service brakes. - Move on to outside PTI. fi fi fl fl fl fl
