Detention Protection Order Guide Revised July 12, 2023 By WCSO Civil Division Purpose: To provide a step-by-step training guide for Detention on how to properly serve Protection Orders Please refer to revised Standard Operational Procedure number 702.7 When you receive a protection order to serve: You will receive one copy of the order from either a Sergeant or Booking Clerk. The order may contain other documents attached such as: An “Application” completed by the Plaintiff “Notice of hearing,” “Motion” Or an “Exhibit” Print and fill out the "Declaration of Service” located on the WCSO Insite Declaration of Service Located on the Rev 7-23.pdf Sheriff’s Office InSite under Detention Forms. How to fill out properly: Your Name and W# Your Name Here W# 911 Parr Blvd Adverse Party Here 911 Parr Blvd Declaration Continued… Temporary Protection Order Against Index of Exhibits Include all Domestic Violence Application For Protection Order Index of Exhibits attached Documents in this area Serving the Inmate the Protection Order Read over the Protection order with the Inmate. Once the inmate is served, make sure to provide the Inmate with a copy of the order and application. Date and sign your declaration of service. Have the Inmate escorted to be cleared by medical. Complete a “Civil” event under the Inmate’s Event tab. Be sure to Include Nurse’s Name and remarks, and “comp” out the event. See example: Send a copy of the Declaration to the “Protection Order Help Center” and make sure to Copy the “Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Civil Division Deputies” [email protected] [email protected] Pro Tip: The easiest way to send this document is to use the copier behind the booking Station (some addresses are programmed in this copier). Select “scan and send.” Add your email and or all email addresses listed above. Next: 1. Make copy of Declaration of Service and give to booking (goes in Inmate's file). 2. Take Declaration of service and place in the “J4 box” at Station 2. The Declaration along with all J4 is taken to Detention Admin where it is sent directly to the Courts. Note: Booking updates NCJIS and the Protection Order Help Center Notifies the Plaintiff of service in case of violation.
