Receiving a Protection Order
- Officers receive one copy of the order from a Sergeant or Booking Clerk.
- The order may include supporting documents like:
- Application completed by the plaintiff
- Notice of hearing
- Motion
- Exhibits (e.g., photos)
Completing the Declaration of Service
- Find the "Declaration of Service" form on WCSO InSite's Detention Forms.
- Fill out the form accurately, including details like:
- Person served
- Location served
- Date and time of service
- Types of documents served
- Sign and date the declaration under penalty of perjury.
Serving the Inmate
- Read the Protection Order to the inmate.
- Provide the inmate with a copy of the order and any supporting documents.
- Ensure the inmate is cleared by medical personnel.
- Complete a "Civil" event record for the inmate, including nurse's name, and remarks.
Following Up
- Send a copy of the Declaration of Service to the Protection Order Help Center and Washoe County Sheriff's Office Civil Division Deputies.
- A preferred method is to use the copier near the booking station.
- Booking updates NCJIS and the Protection Order Help Center. This center informs the plaintiff that service occured.
