The lasting impact of imperialism and colonialism had been the utmost concern at this period. American colonial rule already loosened but its influences and control are still somehow affecting us in terms of social, political and economic aspects of our country as manifested in the form of literature produced in various genres This period is characterized by a return to native languages and a focus on social issues. LITERATURE THEN AND NOW A 21st Century Reader grew up using technology as a primary learning tool. He is capable of navigating and interpreting digital formats and media messages. He also possesses literacy skills, which include technological abilities such as keyboarding, internet navigation, interpretation of technological speak, ability to communicate and interpret coded language and decipher graphics. ❑Written by contemporary authors within the last decade ❑Deals with current issues and themes ❑Reflects technological culture ❑Literature of emerging genres ❑Often breaks traditional writing Poetry is literature that is written in verse and emphasizes the rhythmic use of words to create imagery. Works of poetry are called poems. A person who writes poetry is called a poet. Poetry is a major form of literature. Some examples of poetry are haiku, elegy, sonnet, and song etc. Fiction is literature created from the imagination, not presented as fact, though it may be based on a true story or situation. Types of literature in the fiction genre include the novel, short story, and novella. Non-Fiction is literature about real events and facts. The purpose of non-fiction is to inform and sometimes to persuade. Some examples are newspapers, articles, diaries, and essays. Drama is defined as a form of performance that involves conflicts, emotions, and the portrayal of human experiences through dialogue and action. It typically presents a story or situation that engages the audience's emotions, evoking intense feelings such as tension, excitement, or empathy. Words such as theater, dramatics, and theatrical performances are often synonymous with drama. Also known as web log or a website containing short articles called posts that are changed regularly. Some blogs are written by one person containing their own opinions, interests and experiences, while others are written by many different people. This genre fiction addresses issues of modern womanhood, often humorously and light-heartedly. The genre became popular in the late 1990s, with chick lit titles topping best seller lists and the creation of imprints devoted entirely to chick lit. is a very short story, usually under 1,000 words, that tells a complete story with a clear beginning, middle, and end. It focuses on brevity while still delivering emotional impact or a meaningful idea, often leaving room for the reader's imagination to fill in details. is a modern form of poetry popular in the Philippines that is written and shared using mobile phones, often through SMS (Short Message Service) or messaging apps. It typically follows the traditional Filipino poetic form called tanaga, consisting of four lines with seven syllables each with the same rhyme at the end of each line - a 7-7-7-7 syllabic verse, with an AABB rhyme scheme. The modern Tanaga still uses the 7777-syllable count, but rhymes range from dual rhyme forms: AABB, ABAB, ABBA; to freestyle is a broad literary genre that includes stories exploring imaginative, futuristic, or fantastical ideas, often going beyond the boundaries of our known reality. It asks "what if?" and delves into scenarios that may involve alternative worlds, advanced technology, supernatural elements, or societal changes. combines doodle writing, drawing and handwritten graphics in place in traditional texts.
