INQUIRY, INVESTIGATIONS AND IMMERSION SECOND SEMESTER - THIRD QUARTER Learning Competencies At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to: 1. prepare a plan and focus on issues and ideas in their respective field, and 2. formulate clearly the statement of research problem Activity: In a piece of paper state as many as you can, your idea of research. Guide Questions: 1.What are the concepts that remained in your mind? 2.Can you classify them? 3.Are they related to some discipline? 4.How do you know their relationship? 5.What do you feel about the activity? Research is just any other task that we do. It is like a celebration or a party that in order to be meaningful and successful, serious planning and careful execution are necessary. It needs time and proper organization of things and ideas. Preparedness is the key! Learning Task 1: Brainstorming State a bigger concept. State bigger ideas related to research. Do you think your classmates have the same answers as you? Why? _____________________________________ Learning Task 2: Compare/ Contrast and Semantic Web “How well do you know Inquiries, Investigation, and Immersion?” Write the name of your semantic map at the center and fill out the organizer. How do you apply these concepts, (Inquiry, Investigation, and Immersion) in yourself and to other people? Explain it by writing a narrative. Choosing a Research Topic Introduction Think of a research paper as a search for the answer to a specific question that interests and intrigues you. The purpose of research paper deals with a factual type question, one that will result in a data intensive paper. Narrowing the Topic of your Research Paper If your paper is to be of any value at all, it must discuss the topic in some depth. Depth of treatment rather than scope of coverage is the desirable goal here; to achieve this, narrow your topic in such a way that you can make significant statements about the topic within the prescribed number of pages. Ex. Fraternities (general topic) How can you narrow it down? Assuming that you are allowed a choice of topic, here are some points to consider: The topic should be of importance; otherwise, it will not be worth the time and effort you will be required to put into the paper. The topic should be of personal interest to you. The topic should be interesting and intelligible to the general reader; for his reason, avoid topics which are highly technical or specialized. Ex. “Laminar Flow of Fluid through a Helical Conduit.” “English Deism and the Development of Mythological Syncretism” The topic should acquaint you with cross-section of source materials. The topic should be manageable scale, i.e., it can be satisfactorily completed under the conditions and constraints prescribed by the syllabus. Take note of the next slide: 1. Length of research paper: the length of the beginner paper usually ranges from 15-20 double- spaced typewritten pages. 2. Duration of the research paper project: the beginner calendar usually allots 6 weeks for the entire project, of which only 3 weeks are to be spent on research work both in the library and in the field. 3. Availability of research sources. General Topic of Narrowed Down Narrowed Down Interest Topic Further Philippine Contemporary Pinoy Rock Music Phil.
