SHERIFF’S POLICY MANUAL 3.11 ANNUAL INCREASES: Annual increases will be made in conjunction with an employee's anniversary date. Anniversary dates are defined as the date one year from the effective date of the last regular annual increase, promotion, demotion, or reclassification. A. Annual increases are contingent upon funding by the Broward County Board of Commissioners and may be temporarily suspended due to budgetary constraints. B. Full-time and part-time employees not reaching the top of their pay range will be eligible for a step increase at one-year intervals on the first-full pay period after their anniversary date, unless denied by their Department Director. C. Denial of Annual Salary Increases: 1. Annual salary increases will be automatic for employees unless their supervisor recommends, in writing, to deny the increase or due to budgetary constraints. 2. Supervisors believing their employee's job performance is substandard and does not warrant an annual salary increase will recommend, in writing, a denial of increase via chain of command. 3. Supervisors believing their employee's job performance is substandard and requires further review will recommend, in writing, a delay of increase via chain of command. 4. Department Executive Directors will make the final decision to deny, approve, or delay an annual salary increase. 5. Final decisions denying annual salary increases must be in writing and based on substantial deficiencies in job performance. 6. Final decisions which deny or delay an annual increase must be sent to Human Resources before the employee's anniversary date.
