Theories Related to Maternal and Child Nursing Callista Roy’s Theory – stresses that an important role of the nurse is to help patient adapt to change caused by illness or other stressors Application of the Adaptation Theory to MCN Provides a framework for explaining maternal adjustment following the birth of an infant. The birth experience provides a first-time mother with multiple stimuli to which she must respond. The focal stimuli in this situation is the birth of the new infant.
