Life Performance Outcomes I am a mindful, self-directed learner and role model, consciously expressing my Faith. Essential Performance Outcome Describe and explain the new abilities they have developed as the result of self- initiated learning experiences and projects. Intended Learning Outcomes Identify sound devices (onomatopoeia, alliteration, and assonance); and Use sound devices in statements. Sound Devices these are elements of literature and poetry that emphasize sound. Poets use sound devices to express and strengthen the meaning or experience of poetry. Sound Devices There are different sound devices. Some are onomatopoeia, assonance, and alliteration. Onomatopoeia is the use of words that imitate sounds ex.: The bees buzzed busily. Alliteration is the repetition of beginning sounds in words within a line Ex.: She excitedly greeted us, "Fine, Fun, Fab Friday, Folks!" Assonance is the repetition of vowel sounds in words with different consonants in a line. Ex.: Will sits still with his fish, chips, and dips. Select 6 natural sounds from your brainstormed list. For each one, write a sentence using one of the poetic devices. Onomatopoeia: "The bees buzzed busily among the blooming blossoms." Alliteration: "The chirping crickets creep cautiously through the crinkly leaves." Assonance: The rushing river rumbles and roars over the smooth stones."
