EMPOWERMENT refers to computer technology that we use almost every day, which enables us to do TECHNOLOGY task that, in the past require professional help. DIGITAL NATIVE A person born or brought up during the age of digital technology and therefore familiar with computers and the Internet from an early age. INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY Communication is an act of transmitting messages. It is a process whereby information is exchanged between individuals using symbols, signs or verbal instructions. INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY Technology is the use of scientific knowledge, experience and resources to create processes and products that fulfill human needs. ICT INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY Collectively refers to the technologies, both software and hardware, that enable humans to communicate with one another. Philippines is dub as the “ICT Hub” of Asia ICT IN THE PHILIPPINES BPO started in Philippines with Accenture in 1992 by Frank Holz (the partner responsible for developing and marketing the first Global Resource Center in Manila). According to data gathered by Annual Survey of Philippines Business and Industries in 2010, ICT industry shares 19.3% of the total employment population. Makati City declared Rank 1 as the "Selfiest" Cities in the world, Rank 9 is Cebu City according to Time Magazine. WORLD WIDE WEB (WWW) The World Wide Web (WWW) is the system that enables you to access hypertext documents and other files over the internet. It was an invention made by Tim Berners-Lee. 1990 – The three fundamental technologies for the internet was written. 1991 – The World Wide Web project was introduced to the word. March 29, 1995 – The free and open WWW was launched to the Philippines. EVOLUTION OF WEB WEB 1.0 WEB 2.0 WEB 3.0 WEB 1.0 STATIC Web 1.0 is the name given to the first generation of the Internet. It is the time when most websites were read-only or static. WEB 2.0 DYNAMIC Web 2.0 represents the second generation of the Internet. Unlike Web 1.0 where users are merely audiences or readers who absorb information from websites, Web 2.0 is dynamic and focuses on user participation. FEATURES OF WEB 2.0 FOLKSONOMY It allows users to categorize and classify/arrange information using freely chosen keywords. RICH USER Content is dynamic and is responsive to user's EXPERIENCE input. TYPES OF SOCIAL MEDIA MEDIA SHARING These are sites that allow you to upload and share media content like images, music and video. MICROBLOGGING These are sites that focus on short updates from the user. BLOGS AND FORUMS These websites allow users to post their content. TRENDS IN ICT 3.
