What is Conscience?
- Conscience is part of thinking ability.
- Derived from Latin words meaning application of knowledge to individual.
- The inner sense of what is right or wrong.
- Impels one toward right action.
- A sense of moral obligation.
- A reasoned judgment about good or evil actions.
- Not a rule, but approval of right conduct.
Types of Conscience
- Antecedent: Judgment of an action before it's performed.
- Consequent: Evaluates an action already performed or omitted.
- Certain: Passes judgment without fear of error.
- Doubtful: Uncertainty about morality of an act.
- Right: Presents good as good and evil as evil.
- Erroneous: Mistaken judgment; judges good as evil or evil as good.
