Workplace Violence Policy
- Spring Fire Department (SFD) is committed to providing a violence-free work environment, ensuring the safety of personnel, citizens, vendors, and visitors.
- SFD prohibits any type of workplace violence committed by or against personnel.
- Violent act or threat of violence includes: physical assault, threat to assault or stalking, possessing or threatening with a weapon, intentional damage to property, aggressive or hostile behavior creating fear of injury, harassing or intimidating statements, unwanted or offensive communication via phone calls, voicemails, text messages, emails, or any other form of media.
- Any personnel witnessing or experiencing threatening or violent conduct should immediately report the incident to their supervisor or the Human Resources Department.
- All reports of violence or threats will be taken seriously.
Weapon Free Workplace Policy
- Weapons are strictly prohibited on all property owned or leased by SFD, regardless of license or permit.
- This includes all personnel, vendors, contractors, and visitors.
- Weapons are defined as guns, non-household knives (excluding pocket knives with single-edged blades no longer than 4 inches), and explosives.
- Chemical sprays like mace and pepper spray are excluded.
- The prohibition applies to both loaded and unloaded weapons.
- Employees lawfully possessing firearms or ammunition are allowed to transport or store them securely in their private vehicles parked on SFD property.
- Full and Part-time Police Officers need permission from the Deputy Chief of Support Services to carry their weapons.
- Supervisors can conduct unannounced searches and inspections to ensure compliance.
