Study Notes
Leukocytes Classification
- Granulocytes are classified into three subtypes: Neutrophils, Eosinophils, and Basophils.
Functions of Leukocytes
- Mononuclears, also known as Monocytes, function as phagocytic cells that mature into Macrophages, which then engulf and destroy foreign particles and cellular debris.
Granulocytes vs Agranulocytes
- The main differentiation between granulocytes and agranulocytes is the presence or absence of granules in the cytoplasm.
- Granulocytes have visible granules in their cytoplasm, whereas agranulocytes do not.
Agranulocytes
- Agranulocytes are classified into two subtypes: Lymphocytes and Monocytes.
Schilling's Index
- Schilling's Index uses the Lobe Counting Method to differentiate neutrophils, with the main parameter being the number of lobes in the nucleus of the neutrophil.
