Volleyball Official Rules
- Court Dimensions: 18m by 9m
- Teams: Two teams of 6 players each
- Object of the Game: Teams compete to score points by sending the ball over the opposing court, with a maximum of 3 hits per team
- Play: Ball remains in play until it touches the ground, walls, ceiling, or other object, or a fault is committed
- Gameplay: A rally point system; each possession is awarded to the winner; games are played up to 25 points, winning by 2 points (except deciding game which is played to 15 points)
- Winning a Match: Most high school leagues require best-of-3 matches. Professional leagues require best-of-5.
Scoring System
- Point System: Awarded with every possession to the winner of the rally
- Game Length: Up to 25 points; win by 2 points, no cap
- Deciding Game Length: 15 points; win by 2 points, no cap
- Match Wins: Best 2 out of 3 for high school leagues. Best 3 out of 5 in college and professional leagues
Service Rules
- Serving Position: Must be performed from behind the baseline
- Contacting the Ball: Must contact the ball behind the baseline
- Serving Time Limit: 8 seconds to execute the serve
- Fault (Points Loss): Touching or crossing the baseline while serving, hitting antenna
- Serving Trajectory: Can contact the net, but must proceed into the opposing court
- Substitutions: Rotation
- Substitution Limit: Maximum of 12 allowed per game
Substitutions
- Player Limit: 12 players allowed on the lineup sheet.
- Substitutions: May be made at once or during breaks in play
- Substitutions: Made when the ball is dead (and before the whistle for the service)
- Specific Substitution Requirements: One substitute player for a specific player
- Libero Rules: A designated defensive player wearing a different coloured shirt can enter and exit as required. They are restricted to back row play, cannot serve or block, but have unlimited substitutions

- Penetration: Allowed to penetrate into opponent's space but cannot interfere with the opposing team's play
- Touching Court: You can touch the opponent's court with a foot or body part above the feet; provided it doesn't interfere
- Movement after the ball is out of play: Players can move into the opponent's court after play is over
