Vitamin Overdose Emergency
- If activated charcoal isn't available and a hospital can't be reached within an hour, use ipecac to induce vomiting.
- In case of a vitamin overdose, contact poison control as soon as possible.
Vitamin B Complex
Vitamin B1 (Thiamin)
- Found in beef, pork, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and sunflower seeds.
- Recommended daily amount: 1.2 mg for men, 1.1 mg for women.
- Not known to be toxic in high doses.
Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)
- Found in dairy, eggs, meat, salmon, whole grains, and leafy green vegetables.
- Recommended daily amount: 1.3 mg for men, 1.1 mg for women.
- Not shown to be toxic in high doses.
Vitamin B3 (Niacin)
- Found in meat, fish, whole grains, and leafy greens.
- Recommended daily amount: 16 mg for men, 14 mg for women.
- Used therapeutically to manage cholesterol.
- High doses may cause birth defects in pregnant women.
- May increase uric acid levels, so avoid if you have gout.
- Combination with statins may increase risk of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis.
- Early symptoms of toxicity include "niacin flush" (dilated blood vessels, reddening of the skin, itchiness, and burning).
Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic acid)

- Not shown to be toxic in high doses, but may cause diarrhea in extreme doses.
