Study Notes
Attendance and Punctuality
- Members must arrive at their workplace on time, as specified in the collective agreement, unless authorized otherwise.
- Cases of tardiness or failure to report must be documented in writing and forwarded to the Platoon Chief/Division Chief.
Tardiness Consequences
- Members reporting 15 minutes or more after the shift commencement must be immediately reported to the District Chief.
- Members reporting 30 minutes or more after the shift commencement will be referred to the Platoon Chief/Division Chief for action.
Emergency Leave
- District Chiefs can grant emergency leave for up to 3 hours.
- Platoon Chiefs/Division Chiefs must be notified of all emergency leave granted.
- Leave exceeding 3 hours will be deducted from Lieu Day Bank, Time Owing, or Ill Dependent Leave.
Duty Exchange
- Duty exchanges are governed by the Collective Agreement between the City of Toronto and the Toronto Professional Fire Fighters Association.

Transfer Requests
- Members requesting a transfer must do so in writing on the prescribed form and adhere to the provisions outlined in the Standard Operating Guideline.
Transfer of Personnel
- The Fire Chief has the discretion to transfer members, consistent with the management rights clause and other provisions of the collective agreement.
Work-Related Illness and Accidents
- Members must immediately report any accident, injury, or sickness to their Superior Officer, stating the cause and extent of injury.
- Members must complete and provide reports to their Superior Officer.
Reporting Off Duty
- Members who are off duty and unable to report for their next scheduled duty shift must follow the relevant Advisory or Standard Operating Guideline and Policy.
Booking Back to Duty
- Members reporting back to duty from non-work related sickness or injury must follow the applicable Advisory and Standard Operating Guideline & Policy.
Sick Time and Family Illness Days
- Fraudulent use of sick time or family illness days will not be tolerated.
Pregnancy
- Pregnant firefighters must review job-related duties, risks, and occupational hazards with their treating physician and provide a copy of the Firefighter - Job Demands Analysis (JDA).
- They must advise TFS of any medically substantiated restrictions arising from the pregnancy and cooperate in the accommodation process.
