Types of Public Speeches

Informative Speaking
- Main goal is to disseminate information to inform, demonstrate, or explain concepts, events, objects, or processes
Persuasive Speaking
- Main goal is to persuade and influence the audience; types of persuasive speeches include:
- Facts: persuading listeners about the truth or falsehood of a subject matter
- Policy: persuading listeners to adopt or reject a policy, idea, or course of action
- Value: persuading listeners about the moral, ethical, or rightfulness of a subject matter
Extemporaneous or Impromptu Speaking
- Occurs when speaking about a topic without prior notice or preparation
Communication Process
- Sender: initiates the message
- Message: the information being conveyed
- Channel: the medium through which the message is sent
- Receiver: the audience receiving the message
- Feedback: the response from the receiver

- Content: the substance of the speech
