Holistic Understanding of Peace
- Johan Galtung, in 1995, said peace is the absence of violence, including personal, direct, structural, and indirect forms.
- Structural violence is shown in the unequal distribution of both wealth and resources, and in power for deciding resource distribution.
- Peace includes the absence of personal or direct violence in addition to the presence of social justice.
Mische, 1987
- Negative peace means the absence of both war and physical or direct violence.
- Positive peace means the presence of just, non-exploitative relationships, in addition to human and ecological well-being for diminishing conflict.
- Human survival depends on nature's unimpaired capacity.
Levels of Peace
