Minicomputer
- Used by small businesses and firms for specific purposes
- Also known as "Midrange Computers"
- Have high processing and data storage capabilities, similar to supercomputers and mainframes, but higher than PCs
- Not designed for single user, used by departments of a large company or organizations
Microcomputer
- The cheapest among the other three types of computers
- Designed for general usage, such as entertainment, education, and work purposes
- Well-known manufacturers include Dell, Apple, Samsung, Sony, and Toshiba
Personal Computer (PC)
- Invented by IBM in 1981
- All PCs released since then are compatible with the original design, with many extensions made
- The term "PC compatible" refers to PCs manufactured by companies other than IBM that are compatible with the traditional PC specification
- Originally ran on DOS (Disk Operating System), but most now run on a version of Microsoft Windows
- Typical users include home users, large and small office users
Apple Mac
- A popular model of computers made by Apple Computers, introduced in 1984
- Features a Graphical User Interface (GUI) that utilizes windows, icons, and a mouse
- Easy to use, with no need to learn complex commands, just point and click
