Tuition Reimbursement Eligibility
- Full-time members in good standing, employed for at least one year.
- Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university degree program (Associate's, Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral).
- Degree program must be directly related to the member's current position, rank, or career path.
- Policy is not retroactive and is effective from the date published.
Academic Schedule Requirements
- Course attendance during work hours requires approval from the Deputy Chief of Training.
- Members must create a schedule that doesn't conflict with their work schedule.
- Coursework is limited to 9 hours per standard semester (spring/fall) and 3 hours per special semester (summer).
- Exceptions to these limits are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
- Members are not compensated for the time spent completing coursework.
Reimbursement Details
- Maximum reimbursement of $425 per instructional hour for tuition, books, and fees.
- Reimbursement program is subject to budget constraints and limited to 20 members per year.

- Members must serve the department for 24 months following the activation of a service restitution schedule.
- Failure to complete the 24-month service restitution results in a repayment obligation based on the remaining time until the 24-month mark:
- 0-6 months: 100% of reimbursement
- 7-12 months: 75% of reimbursement
- 13-18 months: 50% of reimbursement
- 19-24 months: 25% of reimbursement
- Each time a member exceeds the $7,500 threshold, their service restitution period is extended by 12 months after the initial 24 months.
- Tuition Reimbursement/Service Restitution does not create a contract of employment. Employment is at-will and can be terminated at any time.
