The Immune System

The purpose of the immune system is to recognize and destroy things that are dangerous to the body, whether they originate from outside the body (exogenous sources) or inside the body (endogenous sources).

Pathogens are microorganisms that cause disease.

Some examples of exogenous sources of danger to the body are viruses, bacteria, parasites, and fungi.
