    Tamriel's History

The Elder Scrolls universe begins with the creation of the world by the spirits of creation and chaos, Anu and Padomay. From this event, the 12 planes of existence were formed, including Nirn, the world we know as Tamriel. The Merethic Era, a time before recorded history, saw the existence of prehistoric beastmen, dragons, and the Ayleid Empire.

After the Merethic Era, the First Era began, during which the Altmer and Nords established their dominance over Tamriel. The Second Era introduced the rise of the Thalmor, Elven rebels, and the formation of the Colovian Estates, the early foundations of the provinces we know today.

The Third Era, arguably the most well-known, saw the rise of the Septim Empire and the actions of Tiber Septim, who united Tamriel and established the modern era. This period also saw the Oblivion Crisis, a conflict that nearly destroyed Tamriel due to Daedric invasion.

The Fourth Era, which covers the events of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and beyond, saw the Third Aldmeri Dominion overthrowing the Septim Empire and the civil unrest caused by the White Gold Concordat.

    Daedric Princes

The Daedric Princes are powerful entities from the Daedric realms, known for their distinct personalities and roles in Tamriel's history. They are often invoked in magic and worshipped by cults across the land. Some notable Daedric Princes include:

    • Sithis: The Void, an entity that maintains universal balance and plays a key role in the story of Skyrim.
    • Mehrunes Dagon: The Dawn Prince, known for his destructive nature and a major threat during the Oblivion Crisis.
    • Molag Bal: The Lord of Domination, involved in the events leading up to The Elder Scrolls Online.
    • Sheogorath: The Mad God, known for his influence on the Fablehaven and Shivering Isles.

    Aedra and Daedra

Aedra and Daedra are two types of divine entities, with significant roles in Tamriel's history and culture.

    • Aedra, or Divines, are the original gods of creation, including Akatosh, Talos, and Lorkhan. They are revered by the majority of Tamriel's races and play a key role in the formation and development of Tamriel.
    • Daedra, or Daemons, are the spirits of Oblivion, the Daedric realms. They are often associated with the Daedric Princes and can be summoned and invoked in rituals and spells.

The Daedric and Aedric realms are fundamentally different, with the former being associated with chaos and the latter with order. Many conflicts in the Elder Scrolls series revolve around these competing ideologies.

The Elder Scrolls series is a rich tapestry of history, mythology, and lore, spanning thousands of years of detailed events and conflicts. As you continue your journey through the world of Tamriel, you'll encounter untold stories of strength, betrayal, and the never-ending struggle to maintain balance in a world of chaos and order.
