Reflexive Pronouns
- Reflexive pronouns indicate actions done to oneself
- Spanish reflexive pronouns used with reflexive verbs are: me, te, se, nos, os, se
- Me, te, and se are used in the singular form of a verb
- Nos, os, and se are used in the plural form of a verb
Conjugating Reflexive Verbs
- Reflexive verb conjugations use reflexive pronouns
- First, drop the se from the verb
- Then, attach the appropriate reflexive pronoun in front of the verb stem
- Drop the ar, er, or ir ending from the verb stem
- Conjugate the verb stem based on verb conjugation rules
Lavarse - To Wash Oneself
- Example of reflexive verb conjugation
- The se is dropped off the verb lavarse
- Reflexive pronouns are then added to the front of the verb
- The ar ending is dropped off and the verb conjugated based on the pronoun
Acostarse - To Go To Bed
- This is a verb that changes the spelling of the stem in the present tense form
- The o changes to ue in the present tense
- This conjugation follows the same rules for reflexive verb conjugation as lavarse
Jugar - To Play a Game/Sport
- This verb changes the spelling of the stem in the present tense form
- The u changes to ue in the present tense
- This conjugation does not follow the same rules for reflexive verb conjugation as lavarse and acostarse because this is not a reflexive verb
- Jugar is a regular verb
Ponerse - To put on
- This verb is also conjugated regularly, and not reflexively
