- Inkatha's leader, Chief Mangosuthu Buthelezi, withdrew Inkatha and formed COSAG with the Conservative Party and two 'independent homelands'
Murder of Chris Hani
- On April 10, 1993 Chris Hani, leader of the ANC and MK, was assassinated by Janusz Walus, a far-right Polish immigrant
- Walus worked with Clive Derby-Lewis, an ex-Rhodesian member of the Conservative Party
- Hani was popular among black South Africans, and his death threatened a race war
- An Afrikaner woman noted the assassin's license plate, leading to arrest of the conspirators
