Somatic Symptom and Dissociative Disorders
- Somatic Symptom Disorder: characterized by experiencing one or more debilitating somatic symptoms accompanied by abnormal thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
- Abnormal reactions associated with Somatic Symptom Disorder: excessive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors related to the symptoms, anxiety about the symptoms, and impairment in social, occupational, or other areas of functioning.
Factitious Disorders
- Factitious Disorder: intentionally producing or feigning physical or psychological symptoms in order to assume the sick role.
- Factitious Disorder imposed on another (Munchausen syndrome by proxy): intentionally producing or feigning physical or psychological symptoms in another person, typically a dependent individual.
Conversion Disorder
- Conversion Disorder: characterized by the presence of neurological symptoms that cannot be explained by a medical condition and are not intentionally produced or feigned.
- Characteristics of Conversion Disorder: symptoms are typically involuntary, and patients are often unaware of the psychological origins of their symptoms.
Dissociative Disorders
