What is the primary difference between qualitative and quantitative research methods?
What is the primary difference between qualitative and quantitative research methods?
Qualitative research focuses on understanding concepts, experiences, and meanings, while quantitative research emphasizes numerical data and statistical analysis.
How can the reliability of a research study be assessed?
How can the reliability of a research study be assessed?
Reliability can be assessed by evaluating the consistency of results across different trials or the stability of the measurement instruments used.
Why is it important to have a clear hypothesis in a research study?
Why is it important to have a clear hypothesis in a research study?
A clear hypothesis provides direction for the research, guiding data collection and analysis while allowing for the formulation of predictions.

Derivatives of Twill Weave
- Twill weaves have various derivatives, including pointed twill, herringbone twill, combined twill, broken twill, and elongated twill.
- These derivatives are modifications of the basic twill weave, resulting in different patterns and appearances.
Pointed Twills
- Pointed twills are made by combining right and left-hand twills on specific numbers of ends.
- The number of ends is calculated as the sum of right (R) and left (L) hand twill ends (Ends = R + L).
- The number of picks is determined by the twill factor (Picks = # of Threads of Twill Factor).
Herringbone Twills
- Herringbone twills are similar to pointed twills but differ in the reversal of the twill factor during direction changes.
- The twill factor reverses direction when the twill changes direction, unlike pointed twills where the twill factor stays the same.
- The calculation for ends (Ends = L + R) and picks (Picks = # of Threads of Twill Factor) are similar.
Combined Twills
- Combined twills are formed by combining two or more twills within the same design, creating varied diagonal effects.
- The calculation for ends involves the least common multiple (LCM) of the twill factors and the number of twills (Ends = LCM of the twill factors X # of Twills).
- Calculation for picks is simply the LCM of the twill factors (Picks = LCM of the twill factors).
Broken Twills
- Broken twills are created by breaking the regular twill line through reversing its draft.
- Two common methods are reversing method and entering/skipping method.
- Broken twills create attractive and unique patterns by breaking or altering the natural diagonal line of the twill weave.
Elongated Twills
- In elongated twills, the diagonal line's angle deviates from 45°.
- The angle is determined by the relation between the warp and weft thread densities (Tan θ = Ends Per Inch / Picks Per Inch).
- Elongated twills produce distinct visual effects compared to standard twills due to varied angles.
