    • A discourse is a continuous stretch of spoken or written language, larger than a single sentence, conveying a message or idea. It has coherence (connectedness), cohesion (unity), and organization (structured ideas). Its purpose can be to inform, persuade, or entertain.
    • Two main types of discourse:
      • Argumentation: Aims to persuade the listener of the speaker's accuracy.

    • Information organization (knowledge organization): A method to arrange and classify data, such as by listing, labeling, categorizing, or describing.
