Prepositions
- Prepositions show the relationship between a noun or pronoun and another word in a sentence
- The other word can be a noun, pronoun, verb, or adjective
- Prepositions are always used before a noun or pronoun
- Examples include: on, in, upon, under, over, of, off, near, over, etc.
Examples of Prepositions in Sentences
- "There is a book on the table": "on" shows the relationship between "book" and "table"
- "He is fond of music": "of" shows the relationship between "fond" and "music"
- "He got off the bus": "off" shows the relationship between "got" and "bus"
- "He died of cancer": "of" shows the relationship between "died" and "cancer"
- "He was standing near the house": "near" shows the relationship between "standing" and "house"
- "The airplane flew over the house": "over" shows the relationship between "flew" and "house"
Position of Prepositions in Sentences
- Prepositions can be at the beginning, middle, or end of a sentence
- Examples:
