    Introduction

    • Establishes guidelines for law enforcement officers from other agencies to be considered for employment on a lateral transfer basis

    Policy

    • Lateral transfer applicants must:
      • Have at least 1 year of experience as a full-time non-probationary law enforcement officer
      • Not be separated from their recent employer due to pending termination related to disciplinary action
      • Successfully complete the employment process, including:
        • Physical Abilities Test (PAT)
        • Polygraph Examination
        • Background Investigation
        • Oral Board
        • Physical Examination
        • Psychological Evaluation
      • Hold a current Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Class A certification

    Guidelines

    • Training Division determines training needs on a case-by-case basis
    • Human Resources Division (HRD) determines eligibility, including:
      • Size of department previously employed
      • Academy training received
    • Applicants must:
      • Successfully complete the Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP) with a Field Training Officer (FTO)
      • Complete a 6-month minimum probationary period
    • Beginning salary for applicants is determined by HRD and cannot exceed Step E of the salary of an existing sworn member with the same uninterrupted years of service
    • Exceptions to this directive must be approved by the Chief of Police
