Introduction
- Establishes guidelines for law enforcement officers from other agencies to be considered for employment on a lateral transfer basis
Policy
- Lateral transfer applicants must:
- Have at least 1 year of experience as a full-time non-probationary law enforcement officer
- Not be separated from their recent employer due to pending termination related to disciplinary action
- Successfully complete the employment process, including:
- Physical Abilities Test (PAT)
- Polygraph Examination
- Background Investigation
- Oral Board
- Physical Examination
- Psychological Evaluation
- Hold a current Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Class A certification
Guidelines
- Training Division determines training needs on a case-by-case basis
- Human Resources Division (HRD) determines eligibility, including:
- Size of department previously employed
- Academy training received
- Applicants must:
- Successfully complete the Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP) with a Field Training Officer (FTO)
- Complete a 6-month minimum probationary period
- Beginning salary for applicants is determined by HRD and cannot exceed Step E of the salary of an existing sworn member with the same uninterrupted years of service
- Exceptions to this directive must be approved by the Chief of Police
