Physicists work with concepts involving space and time, force, mass, energy, and fields of different kinds—sometimes doing so at very large scales and sometimes at very small ones. In essence, physicists work towards understanding how everything we see around us works from particles at microscopic levels to galaxies at macroscopic levels.

In recent years, there have been significant advances in the field of physics thanks largely to technological advancements. For instance, the Large Hadron Collider has allowed researchers to probe deeper into matter and understand it better; remote sensing technologies help astronomers gather information about distant celestial objects without having to go out there personally; and computer simulations give physicists ways to test their theories virtually. These tools have greatly expanded our knowledge about fundamental questions regarding how the universe was formed, where stars come from, what the smallest building blocks of life might be, etc., making physics an ever-evolving subject.

Overall, science is important because it gives people the ability to describe and predict events they would otherwise only observe randomly if it wasn't for science. Scientific progress is driven by curiosity and new ideas, and in general, leads to improvements in technology, healthcare, economics, social policy, education, environment protection, and more.
