Air Defense Organization

  • The Air Defense Command and its operating units are organized into the 580th Air Base Group at San Fernando City, La Union and the 5th Fighter Wing at Basa Air Base, Pampanga.

Philippine Air Defense System (PADS)

  • PADS is composed of command and control, surveillance, and weapons platforms.
  • The system is organized into three concepts:
    • Airspace Control Operations (air surveillance management and control)
    • Air Defense Operations (all measures to nullify and reduce the effectiveness of hostile aircraft and weapons)
    • Provide tactical early warning of hostile air activity

Air Defense Operations

  • Detection is done through PAF's two operating radar stations, one located at San Fernando, La Union and the other at Lubang, Occidental Mindoro, and the joint use of Air Transportation Office's radar facilities covering 80% of the country.
  • Identification is done through the Philippine Air Defense Control Center.
  • Interception is done through intercept missions conducted by the 5th Fighter Wing if an unknown aircraft cannot be identified within two minutes.
  • Destruction is the means of destruction of hostile aircraft.

Phases of Air Defense Operations
