    • Age and muscle mass are factors for IM injections.
    • Volume of medication: for adults 0.5 to 2 mL, pediatric patients 1 mL or less.
    • Needle length for adults: 1 to 1 ½ inches. Gauge: 20-22
    • Important sites for IM administration in infants: Vastus lateralis. In adults: Gluteal area, deltoid, vastus lateralis.
