Non-Halal Ingredients
- Alcoholic beverages and their derivatives are non-halal, including beer, liquor, lager, and wine.
- Alcoholic beverages used as flavor medium must be in small quantities and not intoxicating.
- Pig and its derivatives, such as meat, fat, skin, hair, intestine, bones, pork, bacon, lard, gelatine, fatty acids, and glycerine products, are non-halal.
- Carrion, including the carcass of dead animals, is non-halal, and mixing it in animal feed is prohibited.
- Blood derivatives, used as food additives, emulsifiers, stabilizers, clarifiers, color additives, gelling agents, and nutritional components, are non-halal.
Doubtful Ingredients (Syubhah)
- Lecithin, derived from animal or plant tissues, is doubtful if its source is unknown, but is halal if derived from halal slaughtered bovine animals or plants.
- Gelatine, derived from animal collagen, is doubtful if its source is unknown, but is halal if derived from halal slaughtered bovine animals or fish.
- Glycerides, derived from animals or plants, are doubtful if their source is unknown, but are halal if derived from halal slaughtered bovine animals or plants.
- Enzymes, derived from animals or microorganisms, are doubtful if their source is unknown, but are halal if derived from halal slaughtered bovine animals or microbials.
Halal Food Guidelines
- Halal food must be safe for consumption, non-poisonous, non-intoxicating, and non-hazardous to health.
- Halal food must not be prepared, processed, or manufactured using equipment contaminated by najs (impurities).
- Halal food must not contain human parts or its derivatives that are not permitted by Shariah law.
- Halal food must be physically separated from any other food that does not meet the requirements of Shariah law.
Halal Food of Animal Origin
- Land animals are halal except for pigs, dogs, and their descendants, unslaughtered animals, animals that kill using teeth or tusks, and animals of poisonous or filthy nature.
- Sea animals are halal except for those that are poisonous or venomous in nature, and hazardous to health.
- Plant-based products are halal except for those that are poisonous, intoxicating, or hazardous to health.
- Beverages are halal except for those that are poisonous, intoxicating, hazardous to health, or mixed with non-halal components such as alcoholic beverages.
