Recipients of OT Services
- Occupational therapy is offered to clients.
- Clients can be categorized as individuals, families, caregivers, relevant others, organizations (businesses, industries, or agencies), or populations (refuges, veterans, homeless, individuals with chronic health conditions).
Framework Sections
- The framework is split into two sections:
- OT Domain: outlines the profession's scope and areas where members possess knowledge and skills to assist clients (core values, knowledge, and skills).
- OT Process: a dynamic, occupation-based, and client-centered process for delivering occupational therapy services.
OTPF Domain
- Includes occupations, contextual factors, performance skills, and client factors.
OTPF Domain (Table)
- Presents occupations (ADLs, IADLs, health management, rest & sleep, education, work, play, leisure, social participation).
- Displays contextual factors (environmental, personal factors).
- Shows performance patterns (habits, routines, roles, rituals).
- Lists performance skills (motor skills, process skills, social interaction skills).
- Includes client factors (values, beliefs, spirituality, body functions, body structures).
OTPF Process

OTPF Process (Evaluation)
- Identifies client needs, successful and unsuccessful occupations, occupational history, values, and relevant contexts (personal and environmental), performance patterns, and factors contributing/impeding engagement in occupations.
- Analyzes occupational performance by understanding occupation demands, deficits/strengths in performance skills, and contextual factors impacting performance.
- Synthesizes information from the profile, identifying supports and hindrances to occupational performance, develops hypotheses about performance strengths and deficits, and creates goals in collaboration with the client.
OTPF Process (Intervention)
- Developing plans that include occupation-based goals, intervention approaches, and service delivery methods.
- Carry out interventions like therapeutic use of occupations, education, advocacy, group interventions etc.
- Monitor client responses throughout evaluation and reevaluation.
OTPF Process (Outcomes)
- Measures are selected by their properties of validity, reliability, and sensitivity to change in performance, consistency with goals, and predictability of future outcomes.
- Track progress and adjust goals/interventions using outcome measures, assessing future interventions needs.
