Liliw, Laguna: A Town Known for Tsinelas

Liliw is a municipality located in Laguna province, Philippines, nestled at the foot of Mt. Banahaw and bordering Quezon province.
The primary industry in Liliw is the production of "tsinelas" (slippers) and shoes made from abaca fiber.
Liliw's "Tsinelas" festival, a celebration of their shoe-making heritage, is broadcasted on local television.
Other major income sources in Liliw include cottage industries such as shoe and slipper making, the production of "uraro" biscuits and other local delicacies, and lambanog (coconut wine) distillery.
The town's name, "Liliw," originates from a local legend involving a bird landing on a bamboo pole placed by the town's founder, Gat Tayaw.
According to the legend, the first bird to land on the pole was a crow, which Gat Tayaw deemed inauspicious.
After moving the pole south, a beautiful bird singing "Liw, Liw, Liw" landed on it, leading to the town's name.
During the Spanish colonial period, the town was known as "Liliw."
Upon the arrival of Americans, the name was changed to "Lilio."
On June 11, 1965, Liliw's municipal council officially restored the name to "Liliw" through Resolution No. 8-S-65, aiming to eliminate confusion in pronunciation and spelling.
