Synonyms and Antonyms

Homophones

• Words that are pronounced the same but have different meanings and often different spellings
• Examples:
  • to (in the direction of) and two (the number) and too (also)
  • knight (a medieval warrior) and night (the time of day)
  • fair (just) and fare (the cost of something)

Hyponyms

• Words that are more specific than a broader term (hypernym)
• Examples:
  • Animal (hypernym)
    • Dog (hyponym)
    • Cat (hyponym)
    • Bird (hyponym)
  • Fruit (hypernym)
    • Apple (hyponym)
    • Banana (hyponym)
    • Orange (hyponym)

Hypernyms

• Words that are more general than a narrower term (hyponym)
• Examples:
  • Vehicle (hypernym)
    • Car (hyponym)
    • Truck (hyponym)
    • Motorcycle (hyponym)
  • Tree (hypernym)
    • Oak (hyponym)
    • Maple (hyponym)
    • Pine (hyponym)

Note: Hypernyms and hyponyms are related to each other, where a hypernym is a broader term and a hyponym is a narrower term.

• Los hipónimos son palabras que son más específicas que un término más amplio (hiperním).

  • Fruta (hiperním) - Manzana (hipónimo) - Banana (hipónimo) - Naranja (hipónimo)

Hiperním

• Los hiperníms son palabras que son más generales que un término más estrecho (hipónimo).
• Ejemplos de hiperníms:
  • Vehículo (hiperním) - Coche (hipónimo) - Camión (hipónimo) - Motocicleta (hipónimo)
  • Árbol (hiperním) - Roble (hipónimo) - Arce (hipónimo) - Pino (hipónimo)
• Nota: Los hiperníms y los hipónimos están relacionados entre sí, donde un hiperním es un término más amplio y un hipónimo es un término más estrecho.
