Policy Series 700: Administration of Leave
- The policy outlines the guidelines for the allowance and use of vacation leave as granted through the provisions of Chapter 84, Section 84.140 RSMo.
Accrual and Granting of Vacation Leave
- All members, except the Chief of Police, accrue vacation leave (V-Time) based on years of service.
- The calendar year (January 1 - December 31) is used for accruing and granting V-Time.
- V-Time earned during one calendar year will be granted the following calendar year.
Vacation Leave Schedule
- Members with less than 5 years of service earn 120 hours of V-Time.
- Members with 5-12 years of service earn 160 hours of V-Time on the first day of the calendar year following the completion of 4 years of service.
- Members with 12-15 years of service earn 184 hours of V-Time on the first day of the calendar year following the completion of 11 years of service.
- Members with 15-30 years of service earn 200 hours of V-Time on the first day of the calendar year following the completion of 14 years of service.
- Members with 30 or more years of service earn 240 hours of V-Time on the first day of the calendar year in which the member completes their 29 years of service.
Requesting Leave Time
- Members can request leave time of 3 days or less verbally or via email to their immediate supervisor.
- Members must submit an Application for Leave, Form 1 P.D., to their immediate supervisor for leave time of more than 3 days.
- Requests for vacation leave by division commanders are approved by bureau commanders, and requests by bureau commanders are approved by the Chief of Police.
Additional Provisions
- Accrued V-Time will not be carried forward into the next calendar year, except as provided in the "Duty-Related Injuries and Limited Duty" policy.
- Separating members will be compensated for V-Time earned but not taken as of the last day worked.
