Policy Series 700: Administration of Leave
- The policy provides guidelines for the use of leave hours for members' use at their discretion as a benefit.
Extra (E) Time
- Members may be awarded 8 hours of E-Time for perfect attendance in a calendar year.
- Perfect attendance is defined as having no occurrences of certain leave codes in the timekeeping system.
- Family Sick Leave (FS-Time) and Personal Leave (Y-Time) do not count against perfect attendance.
- Members may earn 16 hours of E-Time for successful performance in the Aerobics Program or other approved programs.
- Members may earn 1 E-Day for recruiting a prospective employee.
- E-Time must be utilized within 1 year of earning the time or it will be removed from the member's balance.
Personal Leave (Y) Time
- Sworn members at the rank of Captain and above may convert a maximum of 16 hours of Sick Leave (S) per calendar year for use as Y-Time.
- Sworn members below the rank of Captain and regular full-time non-sworn members may convert a maximum of 96 hours of Sick Leave (S) per calendar year for use as Y-Time.
- Converted time (Y-Time) will automatically be deducted from the member's sick leave balance.
Quality (Q) Time
- Q-Time is provided to members as floating holidays.
- Members with at least 10 years of service but less than 12 years of service may use up to 64 hours of Q-Time each calendar year.
- All other members may use up to 40 hours of Q-Time each calendar year.
- Q-Time not taken within the calendar year will be forfeited.
- Members will not be compensated for unused Q-Time at separation or retirement.
Religious Holiday Time
- Each member may request a maximum of 16 hours each calendar year for the observance of a religious holiday.
- The time off may be taken as vacation leave, personal leave, previously earned and approved Extra Time, Compensatory Time, leave without pay, changing of Regular Days Off, or Quality Time.
Guidelines
- To request leave of three days or less, a member may verbally state or email their request for approval to their immediate supervisor.
- To request leave of more than three days, a member must submit an Application for Leave to their immediate supervisor.
- Requests for leave by division commanders will be approved by bureau commanders.
- Requests for leave by bureau commanders will be approved by the Chief of Police.
