ISO 45001-OHSMS
- Provides a framework to manage risks and improve occupational health and safety (OH&S) performance.
- Based on the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle.
- Consists of 10 clauses that address specific aspects of OH&S.
Clauses
- Clause 1 - Scope: Defines the boundaries and applicability of the OSH management system within the organization.
- Clause 2 - Normative References: Standards, documents, or regulations relevant to the system.
- Clause 3 - Terms and Definitions: Clarifies key terms used within the system.
- Clause 4 - Context of the Organization: Outlines the internal (products, services, people, knowledge, processes, systems, strategic directions) and external (cultural, social, political, financial, economic) issues, including SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats). Identifies interested parties (internal and external stakeholders). Internal stakeholders include workers, managers, contractors, suppliers, and clients. External stakeholders include consumers, regulators, media, communities, and the general public.
- Clause 5 - Leadership: Details leadership commitment, OH&S policy, and the roles and responsibilities of the organization
- Clause 6 - Planning: Outlines actions to address risks and opportunities, and establishes OH&S objectives and planning to achieve them.
- Clause 7 - Support: Focuses on resources, communication, awareness, competence, and documented information pertinent to the system.
- Clause 8 - Operation: Describes operational planning, control, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and emergency preparedness and response.
- Clause 9 - Performance Evaluation: Covers monitoring, measurement, analysis, performance evaluation, internal audits, and management review.
- Clause 10 - Improvement: Details areas for improvement and a culture of continual improvement.
