- ISO 45001 is the world's first International Standard for occupational health and safety (OH&S) at work, replacing OHSAS 18001.
- OHSAS 18001 was first published in 1999 and revised in 2007, later becoming a British Standard.
- ISO 45001 offers a single, clear framework for organizations to improve their OH&S performance.
History of ISO 45001
- The standard was proposed in October 2013, and at least 70 countries contributed to the drafting process.
- A working draft was approved in 2014, and after revisions, the final draft was published on March 12, 2018.
- The standard passed with 62 votes in favor, nine abstentions, and four votes against from France, India, Spain, and Turkey.
