    • A medical term is built from word parts with some or all of the following components:

    • Roots are often related to a body part, body fluid, or function, etc.
    • A suffix is added to the end of a word root or combining form to modify its meaning.
    • A prefix is added to the beginning of a word root to alter its meaning or create a new word.
    • A combining vowel is inserted between word parts for easier pronunciation
    • Examples of Combining forms include:
      • Hemat/o
