Port St. Lucie Police Explorer Post Guidelines

• Explorers are responsible for replacing any lost, misplaced, or damaged department property due to negligence.
• Uniform items can be replaced with approval from a post supervisor and advisor if they become unsuitable for continued use.
• Male explorers' hair must be conservative and evenly trimmed, not extending over the shirt collar or more than a quarter inch over the top of the ears. Sideburns must be uniform, neatly trimmed, not exceed an inch in width, and cut horizontally along the side of the face. Moustaches are permitted, but beards and goatees are prohibited.
• Female explorers' hair must be neatly styled and not extend below the bottom of the collar. Longer hair may be worn in an upward sweep or bun. Hair accessories must correspond with hair color.
• Personal hygiene is required for all explorers while on duty, in uniform, or in official performance of their duties.
• Jewelry is limited to certain authorized rings and small, unobtrusive earrings for female explorers only. Bracelets are prohibited, and only one neck chain is permitted.
• To operate a department vehicle, explorers must be supervised by a sworn officer, hold a valid Florida driver's license with a clean driving record, have liability and personal injury protection insurance, and comply with state laws and city regulations.
• Explorers must report any injuries sustained during an explorer function and submit a memo detailing the events. The Executive Advisor must complete an accident and sickness insurance plan form and notify the explorer's parents regardless of injury severity.
• Explorers must follow specific procedures for fingerprinting and ride-along programs, and failure to comply with guidelines will result in revocation of privileges.
• When traveling to events, explorers must be accompanied by an advisor, and the Port St. Lucie Police Department Overnight Safety Plan must be completed and approved.
• Explorer background files and training documentation will be secured by the Professional Standards Division Staff Services Training Section.
• Explorers must not release any information to the media and must refer all questions or requests to the advisor or department Public Information Officer. Failure to comply will result in expulsion from the explorer post.
