Hoffman Estates Fire Department Standard Operating Guidelines

• The guidelines are categorized under Administrative and identified as SOG 015.
• They are NIMS compliant and were effective as of January 1, 2022.

Purpose

• The purpose of the guidelines is to establish the requirements and responsibilities for obtaining and maintaining a proper class driver's license to operate automotive fire apparatus.

Policy

• The department policy requires all members to obtain and maintain a proper class driver's license to operate automotive fire apparatus during their employment.

Procedure

• All department employees are responsible for obtaining the proper class driver's license to operate automotive fire apparatus within six months of employment.
• The required licenses are:
  • Illinois Class B non-CDL for all shift personnel.
  • Illinois Class C or D for all staff personnel.
• Employees are responsible for maintaining the proper class driver's license during their employment.
• Employees must assume any costs related to obtaining or maintaining the proper class driver's license.
• Personnel must forward a copy of their renewed or upgraded license to the Battalion Chief – Training/Safety on the first duty day after it is issued.
