    Study Notes

    • The Station Tour Coordinator will coordinate schedule with respective station captain no more than three (3) station tours/engine requests per month, per shift.
    • Exception: During the month of October (Fire Prevention Month) schedule no more than four (4) tours per month, per shift, per station.
    • The Station Tour Coordinator will inform the requesting party of the following:
    • Tours are approximately 40 minutes long. The group should consist of no more than 25 children. One adult per five children must be in attendance. Two tours per day may be scheduled only if they are scheduled consecutively.
    • If more than 25 children or more than one class, two consecutive tours will be scheduled.
    • Persons requesting a station tour for a birthday party or other like events shall be informed that cake and opening of gifts is not part of the station tour.
    • Children should be four years of age or older. If a few children, under the age of 4 will be in attendance, they must be accompanied and supervised at all times by an adult.
    • Teachers will be told that Firefighters will remain on call and may need to respond prior to or during the station tour. If the group arrives at the station and no one is there, they will be told to use the outside phone to ask the Dispatcher the engine company’s status and estimated time of return. They may wait or return to school and call to reschedule.
    • To schedule the station tour, the Station Tour Coordinator will:
    • CompleteformPE.055.
    • Coordinate and assign the tour to the station requested. If no preference is given, assign to the station that responds to the requesting party’s address. Contact Communication Center Dispatcher and ask for the responding station.
    • Check the Training Calendar before confirming date requested.
    • Place tour information, date, time, station and group on master Station Request Calendar.
    • Initial and date the appropriate columns on the lower portion of the PE.055 form to confirm actions taken.
    • Send one copy of PE.055 to the appropriate Station.
    • Send one copy of PE.055 to the appropriate Battalion Chief. During roll call, the Battalion Chief will confirm the event and time with the appropriate Captain.
    • The Station Tour Coordinator will compile monthly statistics to include number of tours, engine demos, and number of persons attending.
    • Captain will fill out back portion of Form PE.055 (Station Feedback) after tour/engine demo and return to Station Tour Coordinator.
    • If the Captain needs to cancel or reschedule:
    • Captain will phone contact person listed to reschedule.
    • Attempts should be made to reschedule on originally assigned Captain’s shift.
    • If contact person cannot reschedule on same shift, request contact person call Station Tour Coordinator to schedule new date.
    • Captain will fill out “Reason
    • The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District will participate in career day if they are not involved in an emergency incident at the time of the event.
    • The engine company will participate in career day if they are in a leadoff position for ease of emergency response.
    • No engine company demonstrations will be allowed at private residences.
    • Requests for presentations will be referred to the Personnel Officer who will confirm the appropriateness of this program and assign personnel from a cadre of trained staff to make the presentation on off-duty time (overtime).
