Personal Vehicles in the Fire Station Guidelines
- The Hoffman Estates Fire Department has a policy prohibiting personal vehicles in the fire stations, except as specified in this guideline.
Purpose
- The purpose of this guideline is to establish rules for personal vehicles in the fire station.
Procedure
- Minor maintenance and washing of personal vehicles are allowed in the fire station under certain conditions:
- after 1700 hours on weekdays
- after hours of station and routine work duties on weekends and holidays, provided duties have been completed
- with Company Officer approval
- Members must use their own supplies and tools for maintenance and washing, except for air hose inflators
- Members assume all risks and liabilities for damages or injuries occurring while their vehicle is in the station
Exceptions
- When temperatures are projected to be below 10°F or 5 inches of snow, the Company Officer may allow members to bring their vehicles into the station after 1700 hours, as long as they do not impede emergency responses
Definitions
- Minor Maintenance: includes activities such as changing windshield wipers, filling tires, and similar tasks; all other work is not allowed
