General Sudirman

General Sudirman was a high ranking Indonesian military officer during the Indonesian national revolution and the first commander-in-chief of the Indonesian Armed Forces.

On 12 November 1945, in Yogyakarta, General Sudirman was chosen as the military's commander-in-chief at the age of 24, in a close vote.

While waiting to be confirmed, General Sudirman ordered an assault on British and Dutch forces in Ambarawa, which strengthened his popular support.

<p>When the Dutch began withdrawing, General Sudirman was recalled to Yogyakarta and forbidden to fight further. His tuberculosis also returned, and he retired to Magelang, where he passed away slightly more than a month after the Dutch withdrawal.</p> Signup and view all the answers
